Beyond the Curriculum
House System: To encourage positive competition and a close rapport between students and teachers, the BMMS School has four “Houses”, namely Subhash House, Gandhi House, Teresa House & Laxmi Bai House to create a supportive environment. Each House has a House Leader and Student Leaders. Every student who attends BMMS School is a member of a ‘house’. The house system provides students ample leadership opportunities along with a feeling of belongingness.
The Houses compete in a number of sporting, academic and cultural activities throughout the year. Each term the winning House receives the House shield and other prizes. The students selected from these Houses managed to secure 14 positions in Zonal Level Cultural & Sports Activities under Directorate of Education, Govt. of NCT of Delhi in the academic year 2015-16.
Book Club: To engage students and contribute to the reading culture at our school, a book club has been established in the school. Students are encouraged to choose, read, and discuss books together under the guidance of teachers by turning reading into a social activity, and that encourages them to keep reading.
Eco Club: An Eco Club has been established in the school with an aim to create environmental awareness amongst the future generation and to encourage, monitor and operate the Eco-friendly activities. The school Eco Club regularly organises and monitors all sustainability activities and programmes at the school with students as the driving force.
In Community service students play an active role in positively shaping their community and volunteer for community work. The students participate in service-related activities in a variety of age-appropriate ways like organizing clothes donation drives for flood victims of Jammu Kashmir, teaching students from the underprivileged section of society, etc. Last year, the student volunteers actively worked towards generating awareness and promote cleanliness in and around school and their houses in tune with Swatch Bharat Abhiyan. Such experiences on one hand broaden their perspective in real life on the other hand make them learn to look beyond themselves with empathy towards the downtrodden section of our society and helps build team spirit.
The focus of the Eco-club activities is to actively practice and promote the 3R’s i.e. reducing, reusing and recycling programs.
